What You Should Do When Contacted

  • Trust your instincts: If something feels suspicious (or too good to be true), then pause and verify.
  • Check the sender’s email domain: Legitimate companies rarely use free emails like @gmail.com or @yahoo.com. Example: if the company name is Userstellar, their site should be like userstellar.com and emails like hr@userstellar.com or qinan@userstellar.com.
  • Cross-check the recruiter: Look up their name on the company’s official staff page & LinkedIn. 
  • Research the company online: A legitimate business will have a digital footprint—official website, news coverage, or active social media.
